2023 Annual Report
The Oheneba Foundation (Ghana) and Oheneba Foundation (USA) are pleased to report on the continuing social and economic development of the Sefwi Obeng-Mim Traditional Area, as well as our work throughout the greater Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area. In addition to the projects described below, the Foundation is proud to report that our ten-year development plan remains on course.
Water, Sanitation, and Infrastructure
The Koto Medal Water Project moved toward completion during 2023. Once opened, this project will provide 100 percent water coverage throughout the Stool Land area.
The main village public toilet was also nearing completion, while various road reconstruction projects continued throughout the Traditional Area.
Health
Health care and medical bills were paid for 78 children in the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area.
Preliminary construction began on the Our Lady of Hope Health Care Center, including the delivery of construction supplies. Progress was delayed by the rainy season, with major construction scheduled to continue when weather conditions permitted.
Computers for the medical college were fully funded.
The Foundation also created a special fund for the Queen Mother, H.R.H. Obaahemaa Nana Yaa Odei I, a professional nurse. The fund focuses particularly on health education and programs benefiting young women.
Education
More than 150 university and college students, together with 50 senior high school students, received support from the Foundation during the year.
One hundred pieces of handmade furniture were supplied to the school, together with seven teachers' writing desks.
The Teachers’ House extension remained under construction. The expansion will provide housing for teachers serving our growing Royal School and will respond to government requirements as the community works toward transferring the school under government funding and management.
The Poon Junior High School building was completed and dedicated.
Members of the Royal House Asafo supported the purchase of audio-visual technology for H.R.H.'s alma mater, Sefwi Wiawso Senior High Technical School.
Funds were received in honor of H.R.H.'s birthday to purchase curriculum materials for children during the following school year.
Construction of the kindergarten school building was planned to begin following completion of the health center.
Additional equipment purchased to assist students and teachers included a television, a public address system, and a motorcycle to aid in transporting students, teachers, and supplies.
